Vathi is a small fishing village, on the southwest side of the Methana peninsula. It is 21 km away (about 30 minutes) from Galata - on the way to the castle of Favier and the dove cave - and 7km (10 minutes) from Methana town.
Vathi is located in the bay of Epidaurus, across from Kalloni village in Trizinia, below Megalochori town and the volcano of Kameni Chora town. It is an ideal destination for truly relaxing holidays. An oasis of peace and tranquility, one of the few that are left.
Its small harbour is well protected from the weather and is a docking site for yachts and other boats. It is the main mooring place of the Saronic Gulf, where several tourist boats are found every night. At the pier of the small harbor, the visitor can see fishing boats as Vathi is a well known fishing village, where you will find picturesque taverns offering fresh fish from the local fishermen.
The village houses are built around the small harbor, along with the lodges and the picturesque taverns, with the olive trees completing the landscape by reaching to the sea, while on the slopes there are small vineyards and few fruit trees.
The floodlights that illuminate the street and the beach help visitors to enjoy their night walk along the waterfront on the coastal road. Wonderful is the sunset in Vathi, with the sun setting behind the Kimomeni mountain, painting the sky and the sea with crimson-yellow colors, gifting the visitor with a touch of calm and encouraging him to enjoy his swim in the crystal clear waters of the area.
The visitor can see the ruins of the Ancient Acropolis of Methana, discovered on the hill of Palaiokastro. The archaeological findings indicate that the site has been continuously inhabited since the Neolithic times (5000 BC) while ruins of ancient buildings are preserved under the sea, from the sunken town of Methana.
All the bays which are formed from Vathi village to Krasopanagia location, are offered for underwater fishing, but also for fishing with a line from the coast rocks. From Vathi you can also visit the Volcano in Kamini Chora. From Vathi you can visit the volcano in Kameni Chora. The ascent to the crater is easy and the view from above is fantastic.
In Vathi, many vessels of those who want to watch a show at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus (45 minutes) are docked and combine it with bathing in sheltered and lonely beaches and food with very good fresh fish.
