KRASOPANAGIA | THE CASTLE OF FAVIER | THE DOVE CAVE

The Castle of Favier

The Castle of Favieros in Methana is a mediaeval castle with four small turrets on its four ends. It was built in 1826 on top of the hill of the strait of Methana by Karolos Favieros (Charles Favier), a French general who contributed to the transformation of greek revolutionary troops to a tactic army.

Charles Favier organized and ruled the first regular army of Greece. In fact, the settlement of Taktikoupoli owes its name to him, since Taktikoupoli means "town of a regular army".

The French general and philhellenist, who was distinguished for bravery during the Greek War of Independence, at some point in 1826, tried to create a Post Office at Poros island, but failed.
